Are You Killing Roger?

I have been a Roger Federer's fan for probably all of my life. Every time there is a news story about him I need to open it and read about it. Today I read that he had been threatened to death through the internet. Someone was going to take advantage of his stay in Shangai, were Roger is going to play a tennis tournament, and try to kill him. "On October 6th, I plan to assassinate Roger Federer with the purpose of exterminating tennis", was what the murderer posted on the Internet, way people started to know about the dilemma. After this incident the local people who were in charge of security for the tournament, called in more security people so that they could secure the place and check everyone in order to see if they had any possible weapons.
This could be looked at from many different perspectives. To begin with, the murderer might have actually wanted to kill the No. 1 tennis player in the world and the security has now done the right thing. But maybe, he or she had other intentions. Maybe the murderer just wanted to play around and wanted to see if he/she was capable of manipulating people. If this what they did, it worked because the Shangai Tournament put more security guards around the places Federer was hanging out in the city.
With this incident one can see that the media, in this case the Internet has the power to manipulate people into doing things. People believe most of what they see in the Internet and they start to guide their lives because of it.

  1. I'm also a Federer fan and this was a crazy story that I myself read about. I think you are right about how there are many perspectives to this. Perhaps, the anonymous threat was from a person who dislikes Federer and aimed for Federer to forfeit the tournament in fear of being killed. Anyways, I think this a good example of how the media effects our lives because through this threat security and people associated with Federer took drastic measures to protect him; moreover, I'm pretty sure Federer himself was a bit scared but for him to go out and play the tournament shows a crazy amount of courage and true passion for his life, tennis.
